The NewMoonGirls.com site was created with the Girls Launch Board, a group of girls ages 8 to 13 from all around the United States and Canada.

New Moon Girls has three major focuses: Creativity, Community, and Education. Girls engage in Creativity by using NewMoonGirls.com tools to write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry and upload their art, video, and music. In My Room a girl chooses an avatar and describes what she likes, her dreams, and her inspirations. Girls are safe and secure in My Room, where they can share no personally identifable information and can share only their first name and state or country. Girls can travel from their rooms to visit My Wall where they can leave each other artful stickers with small, personal messages. Every message is viewed and approved by a trained adult before visible to site members. Girls also have the opportunity to engage in deeper Community discussions on the Shout Out! message boards and in the peer-to-peer advice column, Ask a Girl. In these forums, members share advice and support, express opinions about current events, debate issues, and more.
