What does "Girl-Led" mean?
It means that girls are at the center of everything we do. For example, since its birth in 1992, New Moon Girls magazine has been edited by a
Girls Editorial Board of girls who are the same age as the magazine's readers. The NewMoonGirls.com site was created with the Girls Launch Board, a group of girls ages 8 to 13 from all around the United States and Canada.

How does it work?
New Moon Girls has three major focuses: Creativity, Community, and Education. Girls engage in Creativity by using NewMoonGirls.com tools to write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry and upload their art, video, and music. A girl stores her creations in her personal portfolio, which she can share with other girls or keep private--it's up to her. She can also submit her creations to New Moon Girls print magazine. Through Creativity at New Moon Girls, members develop their own expressive abilities and are inspired by other members' creations.
New Moon Girls engage in Community by visiting each other's rooms and engaging in fully moderated discussions. In My Room a girl chooses an avatar and describes what she likes, her dreams, and her inspirations. Girls are safe and secure in My Room, where they can share no personally identifable information and can share only their first name and state or country. Girls can travel from their rooms to visit My Wall where they can leave each other artful stickers with small, personal messages. Every message is viewed and approved by a trained adult before visible to site members. Girls also have the opportunity to engage in deeper Community discussions on the Shout Out! message boards and in the peer-to-peer advice column, Ask a Girl. In these forums, members share advice and support, express opinions about current events, debate issues, and more.
The experiences and content of New Moon Girls are richly Educational. More than fifteen years of archived content from New Moon Girls magazine is woven into every area of New Moon Girls. In Features hubs like Changing the World and Body and Feelings, members read articles about inspiring girls and women from history and the present, healthy emotional and physical development, scientific experiments, and much more, and they are challenged to think deeply about important life issues.

How is New Moon Girls making a difference?
New Moon Girls stands apart because its impact is made by the product itself. We go beyond other websites--ones that give lip service to telling girls they can be more, while selling them superficial products that stereotype and diminish girls. New Moon Girls provides tools and spaces where girls can actually be more right now in their daily lives. Instead of promoting competition between girls for temporary status, New Moon Girls online and in print helps girls learn about themselves, mentor each other, be inspired by peers and powerful women, and reach their full potential as healthy people who make positive contributions to their families and communities.
